Pre-consultation – Base station installation – Tulse Hill, Station Rise

Vodafone and Telefónica are in the process of identifying a suitable site in the Tulse Hill area for a radio base station as this would improve coverage in the area.

Please find below the details of the proposed site and the alternative site options considered and discounted in their site selection process: –

Tulse Hill North Terminal, Station Rise, Tulse Hill, London, SE27 9BW – NGR: 531935, 173178 – this is the preferred option as the site provides adequate coverage, its proposed position is considered suitable in the context for the telecommunications base station. Taking into account the development’s siting and appearance when read in its current environment, it is considered that a scheme in this location will not undermine the visual amenity of the area with minimal impact on the sky-line.

Alternative site options considered and rejected are as follows:

Akosa Event Hall, 327 Norwood Road, Tulse Hill, London, SE24 9AH – NGR: 531778, 173135 – Discounted on the basis the site provider said no.

Peabody Hill SW, Peabody Hill, Birkbeck Road, Tulse Hill, London, SE21 8JS – NGR: 532052, 173172 – Discounted due to the land identified not being adopted highways land. The owner of the private land declined to accommodate an operator.

317 Norwood Road, Herne Hill, Tulse Hill, London, SE24 9AQ – NGR: 531819, 173238 – Lambeth Council owned building. At the time of the site selection, Lambeth Council were not allowing new telecoms sites on their buildings.

Does your road or pavement need resurfacing?

Your Thurlow Park councillors are submitting a list of roads and pavements we would like to see resurfaced as part of our £12.5 million commitment to improving roads across Lambeth in our manifesto in May 2014.

If you think your road should be included in our submission, please get in touch! Feel free to send pictures or just a description of where and why you think your street needs improving.

And remember, if there is a pothole or areas of uneven footpath, these can be repaired on an ongoing basis, even if your road is not selected by officers for resurfacing this time round.

A new cinema in West Norwood moved a step closer this week as contracts were exchanged between Picturehouse Cinemas Ltd and Lambeth Council.

Picturehouse will lease the old Nettlefold Hall in Norwood High Street and turn it into a four-screen cinema, with bar and café.

As part of the deal, West Norwood Library will also be improved with a £1.125m investment.

Cllr Jane Edbrooke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We know this agreement has been a long time coming but I’m delighted to announce that Picturehouse are coming to West Norwood.

“The area is seeing some really positive changes with the brand new West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre opening in the summer, West Norwood Feast happening every month and now a new cinema and refurbished library opening by 2017.

“West Norwood is fast becoming yet another vibrant Lambeth town centre that people will thoroughly enjoy visiting.”

Lyn Goleby, Managing Director of Picturehouse, said: “This is the sort of building that we get very excited about – modernising and reinventing a place that sits at the heart of its community.

“We hope that the support the project enjoys will mean that we can very soon deliver a great new facility for West Norwood”.

Following the signing of the Agreement to Lease arrangement, there will now be a period of around 12 weeks to complete costings and develop designs ready for a full public consultation, which will begin early next year.

Picturehouse already run the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton and the Clapham Picturehouse, as well as other venue across London. They will spend over £2m on the Nettlefold Hall site.

In recent years, Lambeth council has refurbished Brixton and Streatham Tate libraries and built a brand new library in Clapham.
