Tulse Hill gyratory – get involved!

Last year we petitioned the Mayor to invest in Tulse Hill as we felt the gyratory was dangerous, noisy and unpleasant. We were delighted when Transport for London agreed to spend £5m improving the junction and roads.

We have worked with officers at Lambeth to identify ways for local people to be involved in deciding how the gyratory should change. We will be working with residents over the next few months to put together plans which we will then put to Transport for London to model. Once they have turned our ideas into something workable, there will be further consulation, and we hope that construction will begin within the next couple of years.

We should also get funding to improve the rest of Norwood Road from the corner by Tesco, where pavements have just been completed, to Tulse Hill. We’d love to know your priorities for improvements along here too – from pavements to markets.

If you would like to have your say, we are looking for local people, groups and businesses to get involved! Please send us an email or get in touch with your ideas!

Progress for the Peabody bus

Max and Fred were joined by Val Shawcross, your London Assembly member, and officers from Lambeth and Transport for London to discuss the proposal of a new bus route to the Upper Peabody estate. While there are a few final hurdles, we are excited to have a timeline for the bus service to start!

The current plan would see the 315 single decker bus route being extended to the estate – this route was deemed to be the best as it is frequent and reliable. There are proposals for two bus stops on the estate, at the entrance by the community centre and at the other end by the grass, and the service could run from 6am to midnight 7 days a week.

Over 90% of residents in a recent survey would like to see a bus service extended to the estate – given the estate’s location with poor access to local shops and services this bus could make a huge difference.

The full business case should be complete this Autumn with a full consultation in the new year. We are looking to host a drop in event in February and hope the service will be running by the end of 2015.

This past weekend Max, Anna and Fred were out across the ward supporting a number of community events. While Max attended his surgery session Anna was helping residents on Guernsey and Hawarden roads with their very successful Freshview event. Joining up we then headed off to a scrub clearance at the West Norwood cemetery before handing out some councillor information cards to local business on Norwood road.

On Sunday all three of us took it turns to speak to residents at our table at the Norwood Feast, while further supporting residents later that afternoon at the excellent Romola road Freshview event. It was enjoyable talking to residents as we took note of specific issues people wanted us to be aware of, and hope to see /speak to more residents next weekend…
